Malta Air 737 landed at Manchester with critically low fuel after diversion was erroneously denied

UK investigators found that a Malta Air Boeing 737-800 reached Manchester with critically low fuel after abandoning multiple approaches in severe Scottish weather. An erroneous refusal to accept the aircraft’s diversion, compounded by an air traffic control communication breakdown, left the flight circling before landing with 363 kilograms remaining.
