FAA accelerates transponder equip for airport vehicles after LaGuardia runway collision

In response to the Air Canada Express crash at New York LaGuardia, the FAA is accelerating a program to equip all airport ground vehicles with transponders. The move shifts more of the safety “detection” burden from aircraft-only surveillance toward surface vehicles used during runway operations.
