FAA permanently bans 'see-and-avoid' for helicopter–airplane separation in busy U.S. airspace
The FAA has suspended reliance on visual 'see‑and‑avoid' separation between helicopters and fixed‑wing aircraft in Class B and C airspace and Terminal Radar areas around most high‑traffic U.S. airports. The change, issued by general regulatory notice, follows a year‑long review after the 2025 DCA midair collision.
