DARPA and Northrop Grumman launch XRQ-73 SHEPARD hybrid-electric flying-wing UAS flight tests at Edwards

DARPA and Northrop Grumman have test-flown the XRQ-73 “Shepard” hybrid-electric flying-wing demonstrator under the SHEPARD project. Northrop built the aircraft with Scaled Composites and says the ultra-quiet electric propulsion is powered by electricity generated from a gas turbine, with flights conducted from Edwards AFB.
