FCC grants AST SpaceMobile authority for 248-satellite direct-to-device LEO constellation (425–690 km)

The FCC has approved AST SpaceMobile’s application to launch and operate a 248-satellite NGSO/LEO direct-to-cell constellation, clearing commercial authority for its full deployment. The order sets satellite deployment deadlines and requires orbital-debris mitigation, collision avoidance, and steps to avoid interference with other signals. AST shares rose nearly 8% premarket on the news.
