The SWOT satellite recorded a tsunami's surface signature, providing scientists with high‑resolution sea‑surface elevation measurements of tsunami formation from orbit. Researchers say these observations supply empirical data to validate and improve tsunami propagation, early‑warning models and to help constrain near‑source generation physics.
