DLR-led STAR project: active-twist rotor blades could boost helicopter performance and cut noise

German researchers in the DLR-led STAR project say adding active-twisting technology to helicopter main rotor blades can significantly improve aerodynamic performance while reducing noise and vibration. The team positions the approach as a pathway to higher-efficiency rotorcraft with lower community noise and reduced vibration-induced loads.
