Ethiopia breaks ground on $12.5B Bishoftu International Airport, planned as Africa's largest by 2030

Ethiopia began construction on Jan. 10, 2026 of the $12.5 billion Bishoftu International Airport near Bishoftu south of Addis Ababa, a mega‑hub targeted to be Africa's largest by 2030. Officials say the facility will enable rapid national traffic growth and support Ethiopian Airlines' global expansion.
