TSA reports: WASHINGTON — As airline passengers prepare to take to the skies this Independence Day holiday, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is prepared for a sustained period of high passenger volumes.
On June 21, TSA officers at Philadelphia International Airport stopped an airline employee with a loaded 9mm handgun at an employee checkpoint. The incident is considered a potential 'insider threat'. This marks the 17th firearm intercepted by TSA at the airport this year.
The Transportation Security Administration has experienced its busiest period in history, with daily passenger screenings increasing by several hundred thousand since last month.
US air traffic is showing robust growth, with a steady increase in flights and passengers since January 2021, according to TSA and FlightRadar24 data.
