IATA: 2026 SAF output capped at ~2.4m tonnes (0.8% of jet fuel), warning net-zero 2050 timeline may need a reset
IATA estimates global Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) production will reach around 2.4 million tonnes in 2026—about 0.8% of aviation fuel use—costing airlines $4.3 billion. In his final IATA speech, Willie Walsh said hope for net zero by 2050 is “fading fast,” citing refinery inaction, weaker carbon-credit access and a supply-demand gap that could force a timeline review.
