Soviet Venus Probe Kosmos 482 Reenters Earth After 53 Years
Kosmos 482, a Soviet uncrewed spacecraft launched in 1972 on a failed Venus mission, reentered Earth’s atmosphere 53 years later on May 10, touching down in the Indian Ocean region. Designed for Venus, the 500 kg probe suffered an upper-stage malfunction and remained in orbit for over half a century.
