NTSB Faults Boeing Manufacturing and FAA Oversight in 737 MAX 9 Door Plug Blowout, Issues 19 Safety Recommendations
The NTSB’s final report into the January 2024 Alaska Airlines 737 MAX 9 mid-exit door plug blowout attributes the incident to Boeing’s inadequate training, documentation and quality-control processes, alongside FAA oversight lapses. The board issued 19 safety recommendations—nine for Boeing and ten for the FAA—including a complete redesign of the plug.
