The partial U.S. government shutdown has forced air traffic controllers to work without pay, fueling increased 'sick calls' and staffing shortfalls that have delayed flights at numerous U.S. airports as the shutdown enters its seventh day. Problems have emerged in the Los Angeles area, including temporarily unmanned towers.
