NASA declares MAVEN Mars orbiter lost after months of radio silence, ending the mission’s 11+ year atmospheric study

NASA has officially declared its MAVEN Mars orbiter lost after months of radio silence, following an earlier anomaly that left the spacecraft unresponsive. Launched in 2013, MAVEN spent more than 11 years in Mars orbit and more than a decade beyond its original one-year mission scope, studying the Martian atmosphere and its evolution.
