Russia conducts maiden Soyuz-5 test flight at Baikonur as Roscosmos moves to replace Zenit

Russia’s new-generation Soyuz-5 rocket made its first flight from Baikonur, lifting off on a suborbital demonstration mission with a dummy payload ahead of entry into service. Roscosmos says the launcher targets precise near-Earth orbital delivery and is designed for a 17-ton payload capacity, replacing the Ukrainian-built Zenit.
