Southwest near-midair collision over Nashville: ATC error directed one aircraft into the other’s flight path; onboard collision

Two Southwest Airlines Boeing jets came within about 500 feet of one another over Nashville International Airport on Saturday after air traffic controllers appeared to direct one aircraft to cross into the other’s path. The incident did not result in a collision as both aircraft’s onboard collision-avoidance systems triggered evasive action.
